Packin’ Up!

I have this love/hate relationship with flights. Don’t get me wrong, I still get green and dizzy even before arrival at the airport, nothing new there, but there’s something magical (not Mary Popins kind of magical,) about That D-Day.

When you’re going on a trip, there are always sudden errands that must be completed before the flight; your fridge must be clean of food (need to come up with creative ideas to eat all that food and drink all that beer,) and there’s always that fun moment when you realize you don’t have power cords for your laptop (AGAIN.) Though I did find my guitar’s Whammy Bar while looking! (last seen, 3 years ago; mother guitar is very excited!)

One thing I was really happy to finish is Bone. It’s that awesome graphic novel I’ve always wanted to read. I recently purchased it, the entire 1400 pages single-volume of it and just had to complete it before taking off. Now, I have mixed feelings about this baby, still haven’t decided if it’s cool or ubercool. It’s nothing like what I expected, and after putting down the novel for 5 minutes, I picked it up again as re-read all those panels with Bartleby; I love him so much I will bake him a cake!

Okay, each blog entry of mine is so long it will need its own zip code soon. I’ll let you all off the hook. See you on the dark side of the moon!

A few days ago I payed my lovely dentist a visit. He is not an average dentist (read: he gets the job done well!). At the waiting room there are many toys and gadgets on cabinets and on the walls, and a huge rack of newspaper to pass the time. I sat down and waited my appointment, and started reading Time magazine, only to find out that Johnny Hart has passed away. Hart is the father of B.C. and Wizard of Id.

B.C. has a special place in my heart; pick any of your friends and ask them something about their youth, they’ll tell you about a series on tv, or a comic book character they loved when they were kids, without even knowing why. For me it was The Pink Panther, The Muppets (Sweetums) and B.C. Heck, at the age of 27, I still don’t understand half of the B.C. strips, but I fell in love with the drawings since Sierra’s adaption in a game called B.C’s Quest For Tires for Apple II. I can’t find the words to explain my love for the game; a couple of years ago I bought myself (tsk tsk) a gift for my birthday. It was a Fujitsu projector (which serves me well with Guitar Hero to this very day.) The _first_ thing I did (well, after watching Simpsons,) was hooking up an emulator and playing B.C. It’s pretty funny running a 280×192 game on a 80″ (atleast) projector.

Below is a screenshot from a remake I was working on. It was done for PSP gamedev compo that was going on in the PSP homebrew development. Needless to say it was never completed. I don’t really know how to draw, and what you see here is practically a programmer’s approach to art. The graphics were scanned, then passed through several algorithms to smooth lines, turn raster into curves, used brush tool on multiply to paint and moved vector graphics to create the animation. If I had a graphics artist on a leash I would have finished that game. (If anybody’s interested, I’m up for it!).

Truly, a sad day.

Physics to rock your pants off!

New siggraph videos are out!. I was stunned to see the progress in rendered physics animation. These open up a possibilities for many video games; I hope this cool stuff is not going to be used in a yet-another-fps-game, that now let’s you shoot window glasses or shove cars to swimming pools. It really has the potential of totally unique and fresh game mechanics.

A year ago today, I started working on a game based on a fluid animation code from last year’s siggraph. It was a game in the format of lemmings. You had to save H2O from drying up, evaporating into air or just lost down the drain. The code I used was pretty good to run on a decent pc, but I was aiming for mobile phones. Maybe it’s just ahead of its time. Surely such a cool game can be done for PSPs. Anyone?

Was is sunny today? I can’t remember

From the diary of an entrepreneur:

Today Marko and I drove to Nemal Tel Aviv (Harbor), a lovely place that has since long transformed itself into a workplace for book authors, businessmen and people (like us) who just like to sit in fancy places with laptops and work all their long on their tiny little startups.

This time I worked on my facebook killerapp. Tomorrow is the Facebook NY Developer Meetup, and Amit is going to show off our application to everybody there. I can’t wait to hear what people think about it (crossing my fingers it’s all going to be positive!).

There’s a book I’m currently reading, called The 4-Hour Workweek. It’s a shiny golden bible for everybody who’s seeking freedom, in its modern interpretation. I’m trying to implement what Tim is spelling out (literally, there’s homework at the end of each chapter.) So far I have managed to cut down on my email and instant-messaging time. Next step is to hire myself a virtual assistant. Even if I don’t need one, that’s homework. Uhmmm. I wonder if I can hire an assistant to do my homework…

(red-blue-red outfit!)

Two weeks with zero updates

What the hell is going on here? Where are the 24 hours a day everybody’s been telling me about? I could 20 before I crash my head on the keyboard and fall asleep at the desk! This is not the way thing’s are supposed to be!

Get rich or die tryin’ is the motto these days. I’ve been working on 3 1/2 projects lately, at the same time. At some point it made it to a ridiculously 2-hours night sleep; that’s where I drew the line. I can’t take it.

There has be something I’m missing. Fuckers get rich online without even knowing htmls, so how come I have all these projects done and I still can’t even pay for my books and comics?

If nothing works out (tfu tfu tfu,) I think I’ll just move to thailand and pretend I’m a rich king. Works, no?
